When I set my gemstone carvings, I take care to create a setting that showcases the beauty of the gemstone. (Essentially,
I let the gemstone "lead" the design of the finished piece.) Sometimes I create a simple metal basket or skeleton to hold the stone which allows the gemstone to capture light from all angles. For other pieces I create a bezelled setting (a metal "wall" that holds the stone) with a backplate that is embellished.
